Carmelites '82 Reunion Welcome Address

Welcome Address by Claire Bernadette:

Dear Rev. Sr. Effie, our highly regarded teachers, dear beloved friends, gentlemen and our dear children.

I am here to welcome you all to a gathering which is most cherished and dear to our hearts. I know that you my friends don’t require a formal welcome because it is our function. Today the 29th of December 2006 has made a long cherished dream of most of us come true. Almost half a decade back Sonya Christian had sown the seeds of a reunion. She came down from the US where she is the vice president of a college and put herself out a great extent in the few days she was here but unfortunately she was called back to an important and unavoidable assignment that she couldn’t decline. Although she is not here in person she is very much involved in this reunion and I’m sure that today she will be missing this function a whole deal.

It is indeed a privilege for all of us present here to be a part of such a glorious institution. The Mount Carmel European School was founded way back in July 22, 1885, as we are well aware this school has instilled deep rooted values and a certain culture in us which geared us to face the challenges of today’s competitive world. Many of us are in different walks of life, but in whatever field we are we stand out due to the fine education we had out here. Learning in Mount Carmel has definitely made a difference in our lives. With due respect we think of our Sr. Patricia our principal all through our school life and the other teachers who have left us, Sr. Grace, Sr. Bonafacia, Mrs. Mary Antony, Ms. Alphonsa. Let us stand and bow our heads as a mark of respect.

Now that we have reached a point in our lives when we fully realize the value of meaningful relationships, we should be elated that every one of us here is there for each of us. Let us however not confine the many blessings God has showered on us just to ourselves, but let us reach out and share it with less privileged be it in thought, word, or a deed and let us make this a commitment. Our motto let your light shine on high is inspiring and let us be a beacon of light to all we come across.

I became the coordinator of this gathering not that because I was the best person for it, but I happened to be at the right place and the right time. It was not an easy task to organise this event with working full time and running a full fledged house with two rambunctious teenage boys, but my family particularly Jerry has been more than supportive, in fact he has done half the work and Shoba being in Mount Carmel made things a lot easier,Others on the team Hina, Anitha, Maya,Lizy and Vijaya all have chipped in their mite. As I work in Fatima College, I may possibly be here for many more years to come and I assure you of being there for you-- to represent you all in any venture. I am proud to say that I have personally spoken to all the 43 friends of the 1982 batch and invited them to the function.

Excuse my lecturing, but let me comeback to my duties which is to welcome you. First of all, let me welcome Sr. Effie who was always like a mother to us. Sister you are very dear to our hearts. I extend to you a warm welcome on behalf of the 1982 batch. Our dear teachers we are so happy that so many of you could make it. We have not forgotten the unique impressions each of you have left on our minds and hearts. I welcome you one and all on behalf of the class of 1982. Ms. Prestina, Ms. Eula, Ms. Ann, Ms. Annie, and Ms. Magdeline would definitely have been here. It is only because they humanly could not have be here that they are not here today. I welcome them in spirit to this function. I am very happy to welcome the nephews and nieces we have with us today, last but not the least for my dear dear friends it is my heart I give to you, welcome.
